January 20, 2026 · 7 min read
Year 2083 of the Bikram Sambat calendar begins on 14 April 2026 AD and runs until 13 April 2027 AD. It is the year immediately after 2082 BS and shares its underlying structure with every other BS year: twelve solar months of varying lengths, a fiscal year that starts in Shrawan, a set of national and religious public holidays, and a mix of festivals tied to either the solar grid or the lunar tithi. This guide walks through the year month by month, with all the dates and details you need to plan around it.
2083 BS at a glance
- First day: 1 Baisakh 2083 = 14 April 2026 AD (Tuesday)
- Last day: 30 Chaitra 2083 = 13 April 2027 AD
- Total days: 365 (the BS year is approximately the same length as the AD year)
- Fiscal year: FY 2083/84 begins on 1 Shrawan 2083 (17 July 2026 AD)
- Year before: 2082 BS calendar guide
- Calendar season: the year covers most of AD 2026 and the first quarter of AD 2027
Because the BS and AD calendars are both solar, each BS year contains roughly the same number of days as a Gregorian year (around 365). Where they differ is in how those days are distributed across the twelve months. The BS calendar uses sidereal solar months that vary in length from 29 to 32 days; the Gregorian calendar uses fixed-length months adjusted by a single leap day. So a single AD year overlaps with the end of one BS year and the start of the next; 2083 BS, for example, occupies the last seven months of AD 2026 plus the first three and a half months of AD 2027.

Fiscal year in 2083 BS
Nepal's fiscal year always runs from 1 Shrawan to the last day of Ashadh in the following BS year. So during 2083 BS you are actually inside two different fiscal years:
- FY 2082/83 ends on the last day of Ashadh 2083 (16 July 2026 AD). The first three months of 2083 BS — Baisakh, Jestha and Ashadh — belong to this outgoing FY.
- FY 2083/84 begins on 1 Shrawan 2083 (17 July 2026 AD) and ends on the last day of Ashadh 2084. The final nine months of 2083 BS belong to this new FY.
The federal budget for FY 2083/84 will be presented to parliament around 15 Jestha 2083 (late May 2026), giving ministries roughly six weeks to prepare for the new spending cycle. For more on how fiscal years are labelled and used, read our fiscal year explainer.

Practical tips for navigating 2083 BS
- School calendars — most schools begin their new academic session in early-to-mid Baisakh 2083, with the final exam cycle of the previous year wrapping up in late Chaitra 2082. Confirm exact dates with individual school administrations.
- Tax filing — quarterly VAT returns and the annual income-tax filing for FY 2082/83 are due in the early months of 2083 BS. The annual income-tax deadline for individuals is typically the end of Ashoj.
- Wedding season — Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December 2026) is the traditional peak wedding month. Book venues, photographers and travel well in advance if you plan to attend a wedding in this period.
- Trekking season — the post-monsoon window from Ashwin through Mangsir offers the clearest mountain views. The spring window in Falgun and Chaitra is the second-best time, with rhododendrons in bloom.
- Government deadlines — most government deadlines are specified in BS dates. Convert any deadline to AD using the BS to AD converter so you can set calendar reminders in your phone or work calendar.
Comparing 2082 and 2083 BS month lengths
The structure of 2083 BS is very similar to 2082 BS but with a few subtle differences in month lengths. The most notable variations:
- Ashadh 2083 has 32 days; Ashadh 2082 had 31
- Magh 2083 has 29 days, the same as Magh 2082
- Shrawan 2083 has 31 days; Shrawan 2082 had 32
These small variations matter for legal contracts and deadlines that are written in days rather than month boundaries. Use the date difference calculator for any precise day-count between two BS dates in this year.
Quick conversion tips for 2083 BS
- Use the BS to AD converter for any specific date. Do not subtract 56 or 57 from the BS year mechanically — the result is wrong for dates in January through mid-April AD.
- Use the AD to BS converter to go in the other direction.
- For age calculation in either calendar, the age calculator handles both.
- To check today's date in BS, see the today's Nepali date page.
